The milk and water kefir duo: creamy at breakfast, fizzy by lunchtime
In short
This duo puts two pouches of live grains in one parcel: 20 g of milk kefir grains and 30 g of water kefir grains. With them you make two very different homemade drinks, each ready the day after you start: a thick, tangy milk kefir and a light, fruity, fizzy water kefir. Each culture comes with its own guide, and both are covered by our lifetime activity guarantee.

Plenty of British kitchens have a split vote. Somebody wants something thick to slosh over their muesli; somebody else wants a cold glass of something with bubbles at lunchtime. The duo settles the argument: two kinds of kefir, two moods, a single order and a single delivery.
What's in the parcel

- Milk kefir grains, 20 gSealed alive in their pouch, enough for roughly a litre of creamy kefir every day.
- Water kefir grains, 30 gIn their own liquid, enough for roughly a litre of fizzy drink every day.
- A guide for eachMilk kefir and water kefir each get their own step-by-step instructions, with the signs that all is well.
- Our recipe collectionA QR code in the booklet opens recipes and flavour ideas for both drinks.
- One promise for bothA lifetime activity guarantee on each culture, and your money back if you are unhappy.
Same name, very different glasses
Milk kefir and water kefir share a name and little else. They are separate cultures making separate drinks, which is precisely why the pair works: you are not doubling up, you are covering two quite different cravings.
| Drink | What it's like | Base | Best moment |
|---|---|---|---|
| Milk kefir | Thick, tangy, pourable | Milk | Breakfast, smoothies, cooking and baking |
| Water kefir | Light, fruity, fizzy | Sweetened water and a bit of fruit | Lunch, picnics, instead of a can of pop |
One culture can't do the other's job: milk grains won't make water kefir, and water grains won't make milk kefir. The full comparison is in milk or water kefir.
A day with the duo
Breakfast. Last night's milk kefir is ready. Some goes over a bowl of porridge, some into a banana smoothie, and the grains drop straight back into fresh milk.
Lunchtime. The water kefir that has been quietly working since yesterday gets strained and bottled with a few slices of root ginger, a squeeze of lemon or a handful of raspberries.
Supper. A chilled glass of fruity water kefir on the table, and tomorrow's milk kefir already thickening on the worktop.
Both follow the same comfortable pace: one jar each, ready the following day. Customers tell us looking after two takes hardly longer than one, a few minutes over the morning kettle, with the guides there if anything needs checking.
Who the duo is for
- Homes with a split vote, where one person lives for dairy and another prefers bubbles.
- Families after a breakfast kefir and a homemade alternative to fizzy pop.
- The curious, keen to try both kinds and see which one they reach for most.
- Present buyers looking for something that gets used daily. Gift ideas.

Can I get both going on the day the parcel arrives?
Yes, both cultures are ready on arrival and each has its own guide. Prefer one at a time? Start one and leave the other pouch in the fridge for a few days, as the guide explains.
How much kitchen space does it take?
Two jars on the worktop and a couple of bottles in the fridge. A corner of the counter does nicely.
Does water kefir contain milk?
No. Water kefir is made from water, sugar and fruit. Only milk kefir, as the name suggests, is made with milk.
Is each culture covered by the guarantee?
Yes. Both are guaranteed to reach you alive, and both carry the lifetime activity guarantee: should either, used and stored in normal conditions, remain inactive, we will replace it without charge.
